Betty Ackley Dougherty began her Social Services career at York Poquoson Department of Social Services where she initially served as a Social Worker and later as a Social Work Supervisor. Mrs. Dougherty was appointed as Director of King and Queen Department of Social Services in January of 2008. She has a Bachelors degree in Social Work with a minor in Gerontology from Christopher Newport University and a Masters Degree in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Human Resource Development from The George Washington University. Prior to her work at Social Services, Mrs. Dougherty was a Medical Social Worker at a nursing home and she has also worked in Home Health and Hospice.
