The Department of Emergency Services consists of several functional areas:


PREPAREDNESS AND RECOVERY SERVICES

Emergency Management provides disaster preparedness, response and recovery services to the residents of King and Queen County by writing and maintaining the Emergency Operations Plan, managing the county’s emergency operations center, and by coordinating post disaster recovery and mitigation activities. Emergency Management also provides emergency planning in such areas as special needs, continuity of operations and emergency operations. Emergency Management staff members are available to give presentations on emergency preparedness to your homeowner’s association, civic group, business or faith community.

RESPONSE SERVICES

Fire suppression services are provided 24 hours-a-day to the residents and visitors of King and Queen County through volunteer staffed fire departments.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides 24 hours-a-day basic and advanced life support emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of King and Queen County through a combination staffed EMS system.

The Fire Marshal is responsible for preventing injury, loss of life, damage, or loss of property due to fire or related health and safety hazards by proactively identifying and correcting conditions that contribute to the cause and spread of fire or damage to the environment.

Emergency communications (911) are provided 24 hours a day in King and Queen County through a modern 9-1-1 communications dispatch center utilizing the Middle Peninsula’s first P25 compliant radio communications system.
