King and Queen County offers residents a variety of ways to pay taxes and fees online, over the phone, in person at the courthouse or at one of the designated satellite offices during tax season and online services with a third-party vendor, Official Payments (now ACI Payments).

Online & Phone Payments:
All major credit cards are accepted (Discover, American Express, Master Card or Visa) either by
the County Treasurer’s office or with a third-party vendor, Official Payments (ACI Payments).

Official Payments
Official Payments (ACI Payments) offers online payments at www.officialpayments.com or over
the phone service at 1-800-272-9829. Please use the jurisdiction code 6221 when prompted.
You will need your personal ID (social security number) if paying personal property tax and a
map number if you are paying real estate taxes.

The only payments excepted are for:

  • Personal Property taxes
  • Real Estate taxes
  • Vehicle License fees (select Personal Property Option)

This service is safe, reliable and in accordance with all state and government regulations.

Contact the Office
You can also call the county office of the Treasurer at 804-785-5978 to make a payment as well
during normal business hours.

Please be aware that during tax season, we receive a higher volume of calls. Therefore, it may take longer for us to return your call. If you leave a brief message with your name and phone number, we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please note: A fee is assessed on the amount being paid at the time of entry for all credit card transactions. These fees are paid directly to the vendor. King and Queen County does not retain any portion of this fee.

Paying by Mail:
You can use the USPS to mail your payment along with the bottom portion of the bill and mail in the enclosed return envelope.

When paying by mail, please make sure your envelope is post marked on or before December 5th to avoid any penalty added per Code of Virginia 58.1

If you would like a receipt mailed back to you, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

If you would like a receipt emailed to you, please include your email address on the bill stub.

Locked Drop Boxes
There are three lock boxes that you can drop your payment in during regular business hours of the facility. Locations are:

  • HUB33 in Shacklefords (4521 Lewis B. Puller Mem Hwy, Mattaponi VA 23110)
  • King and Queen Library in St Stephens Church (396 Newtown Rd., St. Stephens Ch, VA
    23148)
  • King and Queen Courthouse in the lobby entrance way (242 Allens Circle, King and
    Queen CH, VA 23085)
    These will be checked daily during tax season. A receipt can be mailed or emailed upon request.

    Instructions:
  • Tear off the bottom part of the tax bill.
  • Include a check or money order. Do not leave cash.
  • Put the above items in an enclosed envelope. Seal the envelope and put your name and telephone number on the outside of the envelope (just in case we need to get in touch with you).
  • Place the envelope of the drop box.
  • For a receipt, please also include your email address on the envelope.

Paying at the Banks:
You can carry your bill and payment to two banks that are set up to take payments on the county behalf. You will need to detach the bottom portion of your bill to give to the teller for our records. The bank locations are:

  • C & F Bank: West Point (Main Office & 14th Street), Middlesex, and Mechanicsville
  • United Bank: West Point, Manquin, and Tappahannock

No partial payments will be accepted, only what is listed on the bill. No tax payments will be accepted at either bank after the due date listed on the bill.

Note: It may take the office up to one week to receive and process payments due to the volume in which they are received during our busy season. You may check online (Real Estate and Personal Property Inquiry) to see if your payment has been processed by the office.

Paying In Person:
If you wish to pay in person at the Treasurer’s Office, please stop by Suite H during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday). We accept cash, check and all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) The convenience fee is 3.5% for all card transactions.

We will also have two satellite offices during tax season for your convenience. All payment types listed above will be accepted.
