If real estate or personal property taxes due to King and Queen County are not paid or postmarked by December 5th of each year, a 10% penalty is added on December 6th. Interest starts accumulating on January 1 of the following year. The interest rate is divided into monthly portions and is added to each item on the first of each month. This gives you an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 8%.

The Treasurer’s Office will begin collection actions on January 1 of the following year. These collection actions include but are not limited to:

  • Hold on your DMV registration
  • Delay in state income refund
  • Wage Liens
  • Bank Liens
  • Warrant-In-Debt
  • Other collection procedures per the Code of Virginia

Delinquent Taxes are also at risk of being turned over to our collection agency, Taxing Authority Consulting Services, PC. If you have been contacted by their office, your taxes are past due and you will need to contact their office to make any payments.
