Free “Introduction to Entrepreneurship” Course Registration Now Open

Residents and businesses operating in the Middle Peninsula region are eligible to register now for “Introduction to Entrepreneurship,” a free business training course presented by the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission in collaboration with local economic development organizations thanks to funding support from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission.

This comprehensive program, which will kick off July 11, 2024 and run Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for seven weeks, is designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to successfully launch and grow their own businesses. Successful completion of the course will enable graduates access to the Commission’s financial assistance to businesses, including low interest loans.

Program classes will be held in-person only at the Commission office at 125 Bowen St. in Saluda and led by Joe Syslo, an adjunct faculty member of the Rappahannock Community College with over two decades of experience teaching courses in Business Management, Leadership, Business Communications and Business Law. Syslo also serves as an advisor and mentor to small businesses entrepreneurs in the region.

“Introduction to Entrepreneurship” will offer a unique blend of practical instruction, hands-on workshops and mentorship from experienced industry professionals. Participants will learn essential topics such as business planning, financial management, marketing strategies and legal considerations. The course also provides valuable networking opportunities, allowing participants to connect with like-minded individuals and potential investors.

Hands on exercises by participants will culminate in the creation of a “Bankable Business Plan.”

“We are excited to offer this training course to aspiring entrepreneurs,” said Lewie Lawrence, Executive Director of the Commission “Small businesses are the heartbeat of our economy, driving innovation, creating jobs and fostering community growth. Their success reverberates far beyond their storefronts and offices, stimulating our economy and paving the way for a more prosperous, resilient region.”

The Entrepreneurship Training Course is open to individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels. Early registration is encouraged, as space is limited and spots are expected to fill quickly.

The deadline to enroll in this program is July 5, 2024.
