Building/Inspections

The mission of the Building Department is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the general public by assuring that all buildings, structures and related equipment are constructed, installed and maintained in compliance with the standards contained within the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.

The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code is comprised of the following:
2012 Virginia Construction Code (USBC, Part I) Effective July 14, 2014
2012 Virginia Rehabilitation Code (USBC, Part II) Effective July 14, 2014
2012 Virginia Maintenance Code (USBC, Part III) Effective July 14, 2014

King & Queen County Code of Ordinances

One of the hallmarks of government in King and Queen County is its effort to conserve the county’s agricultural character and natural environment.

It is the responsibility of this department to administer and coordinate the land use policies of the county as stated in its Comprehensive Plan and implemented in its Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. A key tool in the efforts of the planning department is the Geographic Information System (GIS) whereby all of the physical attributes of the county are assembled to help understand the interrelationship of these attributes.

Planning Commission Meetings

The King & Queen County Planning Commission hold their meetings onthe first Monday of every month. The meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held in the General District Courtroom in the Courts and Administrative Building. Occasionally, due to legal holidays or other conflicts, meeting dates and times are changed or canceled.
